Whether you voted Leave or Remain, we can all be united in our desire to protect and preserve our wildlife, our rivers, our seas, our beaches and our forests.
As the post-Referendum negotiations begin, it is essential that our politicians set out plans for a world-leading UK environment policy that we can all support.
We now need to put forward a united voice to ensure the UK Government commits to protect our natural world and tackle global issues such as climate change.
Write to your MP
You can help by writing an email to your local MP urging them to sign the ‘Pledge for the Environment’ - a commitment to uphold and improve our environmental protections.
MPs are more likely to respond to your email if it's a personal one from their own constituent. Read more in our blog on ‘Why write to MPs?’
What are we asking MPs to sign?
We are calling on the UK’s MPs to make the following commitment:
I believe that following the EU referendum, the UK Government, working with administrations in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh, must build a healthy and prosperous future for all. This means a thriving natural world on land and at sea, clean air and water, communities connected to nature, and a sustainable economy.
For the wellbeing of my constituents, for people at home and abroad, and for future generations who will depend on a flourishing and secure planet, I will do everything in my power to:
If you as an MP support the pledge, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
What if my MP has already signed the pledge?
You can see which MPs have already signed the pledge. If your MP has already signed, then please write to thank them and let them know why the environment is important to you. The more people they hear from, the more likely they will be to maintain their commitment.
Who is involved in the pledge?
We at WWF-UK are collaborating with a coalition of organisations including RSPB, Friends of the Earth, The Wildlife Trusts, The Climate Coalition and others, to ensure the environment remains at the forefront of the political agenda post-referendum.
